| Today's the opening of the new National Music Museum. The Mayor, the
Governor, and the Senator are all in town for the dedication, and after
the ceremonies I hear there's going to be an All-Star jam.
Have you seen the Museum? We're all proud of it, and we all helped pay
for it, too. We voted to apply a portion of our state and local tax
dollars to it, and the Federal Government made a contribution as well.

If you total it up, we're talking about hundreds of billions of dollars.
And that's just on the Federal level. Your town, my town, every town
across the U.S. collects its own taxes. Plus all fifty states and the
District of Columbia. With all that, I bet we could add on another zero
or two.
I wonder how closely the local, state, and Federal governments work
together to coordinate the taxes they collect? Who has the power to
impose taxes, and who has the responsibility to distribute the revenue?
Who gets the money, and where does it all go?
